HOLY WEEK

Venice United Church of Christ is excited to invite the community to join us for our Holy Week Services, which are designed to immerse us in hearing and responding to our scriptures of Jesus’ final week leading to his resurrection from Luke’s Good News.  

The four services begin with our Palm Sunday Celebration on April 13, and conclude with our Easter Celebration at 10:00 am on April 20.

• April 13, 10 am. During Our Palm Sunday service, we journey with Christ and his disciples towards Jerusalem, stopping to weep over the city before riding a donkey into the Holy City.  
• April 17, 6 pm.  On Maundy Thursday, we gather to commemorate Christ’s last supper with his disciples prior to his crucifixion.  Everyone is invited to join in this very simple re-enactment of eating with Christ and the disciples at the inauguration of what we now call our Eucharist.  
• April 18, 7 pm. Join us for our Tenebrae service, as we move from praying in the Garden with Christ through the narrative of his trial and crucifixion.  
• April 20, 7 am.  On Easter morning, join us in our garden for the Easter Sonrise Service as we symbolically join with the women who headed out at dawn to tend to Christ’s body.  Together,  we will once again encounter our resurrected Messiah.
• April 20, 10:00 am.  Easter Celebration and Worship.  Join us as we joyously gather to celebrate Christ’s resurrection.
