On The Spot Aid

On The Spot Aid, Inc is a nonprofit started for the purpose of wrapping hands, and finances, around the street medicine. that is being provided for the homeless and medically insecure friends. Street medicine is a journey this nonprofit began because the need became so apparent. Homeless people struggle for access to medical care, and when health services are available pro bono, it is after an in– depth process of establishing eligibility for said services. There was evidence of conditions on the ambulance, in the ER and during hospitalizations that could easily have been prevented with basic first aid early on. And so, the name; On The Spot was such a suitable name. This nonprofit cares for the person in front of them, in the moment.

What are the Tools utilized by On The Spot?

Their tools are simple; a “go bag” with gauzes, bandages, saline, hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment, Tylenol and Advil…the things most of us have handy in the cabinets under our bathroom sinks. But homeless people don’t have bathrooms, let alone first aid supplies. When those in this nonprofit care for a laceration or burn, they put together supplies and provide some education so the campers can continue to keep the wounds clean and properly dressed. Sometimes they pick up prescriptions that are unaffordable, remove sutures, or find ostomy supplies. Can you imagine dealing with an ostomy in the woods?

Venice United Church of Christ helps this nonprofit by helping with supplies and aiding them anyway we can.
